Blue Carnation Story by a Blue Carnation Lover

I was introduced to Blue Carnation in 1976.  I was a 22 year old serious (but with a bit of a wild side) university student, nearing a degree and working a night job with slow periods that allowed me to study. One evening upon entering the office I detected a delightful fragrance, quite floral in essence but wonderfully balanced with spicy undertones.  Eagerly searching for its source, my eyes quickly found her...a newly hired woman of dazzling beauty with a smile that lit up the entire office as it simultaneously made my heart skip.

At 28 years of age she sought the comforts of an office setting after having spent many years on her feet employed as a server. It came as no surprise that this heavenly scented, drop-dead-gorgeous woman had not come from an ordinary local tavern, but rather from the world famous Playboy Club on the Sunset Strip, where she had been successfully employed for several years as a Playboy Bunny/server, no less.  She was very friendly and shared stories of her adventures in the world of rock 'n roll (thanks to connections she had built at the Playboy Club)...the many concerts she had attended complete with back stage passes, the exclusive parties and dating some famous musicians.

We would become quick friends and despite the rather pleasant distraction, I managed to complete my studies and obtain my degree.  Then we dated.  Let me point out there was nothing subtle about this woman, not her beauty, her smile, her attitude or even the Blue Carnation cologne she always wore.  And I loved it all.  We would fall in love and live together for a couple of wild years, attending concerts and partying like crazy.

I would eventually feel the need to settle down and get a real job, cashing in those years of study and my hard earned degree.  We would split as a couple but not as friends and here, now, some 36 years after we met, we remain the best of friends.  I remember her excitement, when many years ago, and long after Blue Carnation was discontinued, I presented  her a bottle I had stumbled upon in a drug store.  I well imagine how she will flip when she receives a bottle of your copy, which, I also happened to stumble upon, this time on ebay!

Thank you for making it and making it available to other Blue Carnation lovers!

How I Discovered Blue Carnation Soap and Perfume

I can't really remember how I found out about Blue Carnation, but since carnation is my birth flower, I found a bottle when I was young - in my teens and loved it, and then it was discontinued. I have always been on the lookout for more carnation fragrances over the years- and they are extremely rare and hard to find but I have discovered whole conversations on fragrance blogs about how others loved it too and what other fragrances are options. I was really impressed that you have tried to come up with a formula that tries to emulate it. I wore another carnation to work this week and someone asked what it was - she thought it smelled beautiful. So I am willing to give yours a try.

My Blue Carnation Soap and Perfume Discovery Story

I first discovered Blue Carnation Perfume around 1968 at my friends house, her Mother used it alot.I wore it to my wedding in 1976 & also carried a bouquet of blue carnations.  I have loved the fragrance ever since I first smelled it & was heartbroken when I could not buy it.  I am looking forward to smelling that heavenly scent again.

Blue Carnation Perfumed Soap - My Story

Hello!   Here's the story......
My introduction to carnation fragrance was actually through Floris, "Malmaison" scent, which I bought in London YEARS ago. Floris was (and I think IS) the perfumier to the Royal Family, and has numerous scents. I loved the Malmaison, and when I tried to puchase it in the US, I found it was unavailable--discontinued!! From then on, I found other scents I could use (most "go bad" on me due to my skin chemistry), Then I stumbled across the R&G version... my mom's almost-used-up bottle. I finished that, and then resumed my carnation-less existence for years. Then came eBay!!  I was thrilled to find different carnation offerings--with mixed success.  I can't wait to try your ersatz concoction!!

Roberta G's Blue Carnation Story

My story begins back in 1953 when my twin sister and I were starting college at the University of Rochester and one of her roomate's mother brought each of us a box of Blue Carnation soap.  I used it and was hooked on the scent.  Later I found that I could buy a large bottle of blue colored  Eeu de Toillette for $9.00 at many pharmacies and started splashing that on daily.  Blue Carnation became my signature scent and years later at a visit from my daughter,  when we hugged she said, “Oh Mother,  you smell like YOU!!

Then the tragedy when Roger and Gallet in 1956 stopped making Blue Carnation,  but still had Carnation which was a consolation.  I was able to find the soap in small drug stores in the Carribean Islands on vacation and would drag as much as I could carry back to Philadelphia.    Later in my life, while training to be a doctor, several patients made gifts of very popular perfumes;  Chanel #5,  White Shoulders – and I found that all of them gave me a sick headache;  needed my Blue Carnation.

Ebay was a source of very expensive cologne or perfume when intermittently people found bottles or dry perfume in their family estates as elders died.  So I bid and won some lost some until I had a conversation with a perfumer at Roger et Gallet while visiting Paris.  She shared a hint at what was needed to change carnation to blue and I did it with a bit of success.  Since then I have perfected the present concoction – which people have been loving.  And – I have my own limitless supply!
